New Orleans, quite possibly the Chef’s favorite place to eat in the entire country. Commander’s Palace, the Saint-Germain, La Petite Grocery, Brennan’s, Willie Mae’s Scotch House, NOLA Po’Boy and Felix’s Oyster Bar are just a couple of the Chef John’s favorite places to dine. Your Chef will entertain with stories while dinner is cooking.
Have the Chef come over and teach you and your guests one of the New Orleans inspired menus (they are all his favorites):
This class is inspired by the Chef John’s first visit to New Orleans. He stayed in a hotel right on LaFayette Square. His first meal when he got there is exactly what you’ll be learning to cook: chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, New Orleans red beans, proper steamed rice and bananas foster. This class will take approximately 2 hours (depends on how many stories he tells) and the cost start at $280 for 4 people.
Here is a menu inspired by the Chef John’s first trip down that famous travel way. Crawfish etouffee over steamed rice will be paired with gulf coast shrimp and grits. The Chef will also teach how to make a beignets better than that one cafe’s. This class will take approximately 2 hours (depends on how many stories he tells) and the cost start at $290 for 4 people.
This menu is inspired by lunch in Jackson Square. Grabbing a sandwich, finding a seat and watching the artist and the people. So, in honor of that, you will be learning how to make a muffuletta, a shrimp po’boy and chopped coleslaw. Chef will also bring a bag of Zapps with him. This class will take approximately 1.5 hours (depends on how many stories he tells) and the cost start at $190 for 4 people.
New Orleans is wonderful, but so is the area just outside of the city. So, this menu is inspired by several Cajuns that the Chef happens to know. In this class you will learn how to make a seafood boil; filled with shrimp, crawfish, clams, oysters, mussels, crab claws, corn, potatoes, onions and andouille sausage. While that is cooking, you will learn to make corn bread and hush puppies. This class will take approximately 2.5 hours (depends on how many stories he tells) and the cost start at $345 for 4 people.
